Star Trek: Starfleet Academy welcomed back a familiar face from Discovery: Mary Wiseman. While Discovery was divisive, a major highlight was Wiseman’s performance as Sylvia Tilly. The feisty engineer was always there to provide laughs and an energy channeling fan excitement on the show.
Speaking to ScreenRant about her return to the franchise, Wiseman echoed the views of other Discovery actors in how it was a major surprise that the show ended after five seasons. Wiseman said:
"Yeah, it was definitely a surprise. But also, I feel like they figured out a way to make it feel like it came to a complete ending. So we were really grateful for that opportunity to get the chance to sew it up in the way that we did. Not all shows get that chance to not leave the audience in an open-ended, unfinished space. I was grateful for that, that we were able to do that."
It was harsh for fans to see Discovery cut short when there seemed to be so much story potential left. The show got a major boost when the crew was sent into the 32nd century, giving us a chance to explore a far future galaxy recovering from a galactic cataclysm. It really appeared the writers had more planned when the axe fell.
At least Trek continues with Starfleet Academy, and episode 8, “The Life of the Stars,” brought back Tilly in a role she was perfect for! (Continued on page 2...)
