“It’s just too important.”

Yes, it's true time is running out on Paramount+’s current lineup of Star Trek streaming content, but don't lose hope. Strange New Worlds season 4 is underway, and the final six-episode fifth season of SNW has already completed filming, which will most likely drop in the summer of 2027. Meanwhile, the only other remaining Trek on the streaming platform’s future slate is Starfleet Academy’s second season, but there’s a light at the end of the tunnel.

Jane Wiseman, the Executive Vice President (Head of Originals) for Paramount+, finally addressed the future of Star Trek, and there’s nothing uncertain when it comes to actually producing more films and series, as some irresponsible headlines would have the fandom believe. Wiseman said while addressing the topic of "genres" in a new interview with Deadline: “We’re the home of Star Trek, and we have series coming back. We’re going to have more.”

“It is our goal and it is our job to figure out what the next bounce of Star Trek is,” Wiseman continued later in the interview. “We’re talking to a lot of writers, we are leaning on CBS Studios, and it is imperative that we figure out what the next iteration is in this franchise because it’s just too important. We also are in touch with Paramount Pictures; they have a Star Trek movie that’s in development.”

Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, who are the creative minds behind the upcoming big-screen Trek, talked a bit about the franchise’s future movie while attending this year’s San Diego-Comic. Both promised that fans will be surprised by the project, but the script is still in the early stages of development.

Meanwhile, nothing concrete has been offered in the way of news regarding new streaming series titles on Paramount+. Yes, there’s certainly a lot of online chatter from fans who’d like to see a follow-up to Picard (Legacy ), a sequel series to Enterprise (United ), and, of course, a Paul Wesley-led show following the adventures of his Captain James T. Kirk inYear One.

I’m not sure what the next streaming Star Trek series will be, but there isn’t any question now that more titles will materialize on Paramount+ in the future. Now, when will the next exploration of the final frontier take place on the small screen after SNW and SFA completes their final seasons?

That’s really the only question. Trek has thrived for 60 years, and the world’s greatest science fiction franchise isn’t going to go the way of Ceti Alpha VI — ever — regardless of what sensationalized headlines might try to sell the fandom.
