David Ellison is clearly factoring Star Trek into the merger with Warner Bros.

Paramount Skydance’s $110-billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery is expected to officially go through later this year, which should greatly benefit the Star Trek universe. And, while on an investors call, the company’s chairman and CEO, David Ellison, mentioned the beloved science fiction franchise, in regard to both streaming content and theatrical releases. Ellison said (per TrekMovie.com):

“So [Paramount & Warner Bros.] are actually making 30 films to date, which I think is important to note and accelerating. And under those studios will be some of the most beloved franchises of all times, including Harry Potter, Top Gun, Star Trek, Looney Tunes, Game of Thrones, Yellowstone.”

Unless something changes when Paramount and Warner Bros. officially merge, a total of three Star Trek films were reported to be in development back in 2025. J.J. Abrams will produce two new Treks. One of Abrams’ films is reportedly being written by Steve Yockey, which will feature James T. Kirk, Spock, and company.

The other Abrams production will feature brand-new characters, and it is being penned by Seth Grahame Smith with Andor’s Toby Haynes slated to direct. Meanwhile, the third Star Trek film to be announced will be helmed by the creative talents of Spider-Man: Homecoming’s writers Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley.

Ellison also acknowledged Strange New Worlds season 4, which will drop this July, by saying: “To achieve our goals that we’re working towards in streaming, we need to invest in obviously more content on platform. I think if you take a look at what’s obviously coming in 2026. We have new seasons of The Agency, Star Trek, Lioness, MobLand and Tulsa King.”

Plus, despite whatever shape Paramount+ and HBO Max morph into together, Strange New Worlds season 5 and Starfleet Academy season 2 will both likely drop in 2027. So, Star Trek content is guaranteed for the next two years. However, I wonder if another streaming series and/or a feature film can be ready for release by 2028.

I certainly hope so, that way we can avoid a gap like the one that occurred between Enterprise’s cancellation in 2005 and the debut of the first Kelvin Timeline Star Trek in 2009. Now, share your thoughts on the Paramount merger with Warner Bros. via the Redshirts Always Die Facebook and X pages.

Live long and prosper, Trekkies!
