“Star Trek gave me a good job for a long time…”
In the overall scheme of Hollywood, only a select number of actors have the opportunity to work on a Star Trek television series or movie, and far, far less get the chance to portray the commander of the Enterprise. Strange New Worlds’ Anson Mount is one of those performers whose character, Captain Christopher Pike, boldly went and led the famed Federation vessel for five years, and he is “eternally grateful to the fans.”
Mount said during an interview with TV Insider, “Star Trek gave me a good job for a long time, and the ability to enter into this convention world. I’m eternally grateful to the fans; this has completely changed my life.”
While filming on the fifth and final season of Strange New Worlds has already wrapped, fans still have seven more episodes to look forward to, which includes the season 4 finale, “Tomorrow’s Enterprise,” that drops later today (Thursday Sept. 24).
Aside from the greatest science fiction fandom, another thing Mount is thankful for when it comes to Star Trek is that Strange New Worlds actually afforded the working actor the opportunity to have a family, too.
“It’s also the job that allowed me to have the bravery to have a family,” Mount said during the same sit-down. “When you choose to be an actor, having a family is not a given. Most of my actor friends have chosen not to have children because of the realities of this career.”
I’m excited about Mount’s latest performance as Captain Pike in “Tomorrow’s Enterprise” because it appears his character will be able to interact with USS Enterprise members in the future during the season 4 finale — given what the footage from the latest Strange New Worlds teaser trailer and a set of 20 sneak-peek images showed.
One thing is for sure, even if he doesn’t get to interact with Future James T. Kirk (Paul Wesley), fans already know Pike will get to chat up Future Lt. Nyota Uhura thanks to the Strange New Worlds photos from “Tomorrow’s Enterprise.”
