The passionate kiss with a puppet actually plays.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds truly went where the show has never gone before in season 4’s fifth episode, “Level-Five Transporter Accident.” However, one of the most heartfelt moments, which did include a puppet and wasn’t played for laughs, came when Mr. Spock (Ethan Peck) reflects on the craziness of everyone else transforming into “Muppets.”

Peck not only shares the emotionally fulfilling scene with the T’Pring puppet (voiced by Gia Sandhu), but he also kisses the "Muppet," too! The actor reflected on the odd yet meaningful meeting of the lips in a new interview (per TVLine) by saying: “It was so weird [laughs]!”

Peck, who has played Lt. Spock since the Strange New Worlds series premiere in 2022, continued by saying:

“People came to set to be like, 'Oh, what? That’s so what?’ And there were like people that weren't normally on set there to watch because they were so curious about it. And, you know, again we played it really sincerely, and I think that’s what makes it sort of funny and strange and interesting."

Personally, I loved the scene where Spock kisses T’Pring's puppet, but it never would have worked if Peck hadn’t brought his A Game to the Strange New Worlds set for this particular episode. Throughout “Level-Five Transporter Accident,” Spock is nearly stretched beyond his limits, as he tries to run the USS Enterprise all by himself because none of the puppets can operate any of the controls.

To make matters worse, Orion pirates board the Enterprise and try to steal the Starfleet vessel. Plus, the ship picked up Spock’s former fiance, T’Pring, before all the “Muppet” madness began, and it’s always awkward coming face to face again. In this case, though, it was even more stressful because T’Pring was puppet-ized.

Throughout the episode, puppet T’Pring aids Spock as he nearly cracks emotionally at all the crap thrown his way. Their teamwork reignites old, familiar feelings, and by the time “Level-Five Transporter Accident” reaches the kissing scene, fans have hopefully bought into the bonding the former lovers have experienced.

I definitely reached a state where suspension of disbelief took over, so I feel the emotional and heartfelt kiss between Spock and “Muppet” T’Pring worked. How about you? Share your thoughts and comments with us about the passionate puppet kiss on the Redshirts Always Die Facebook and X pages.
