Strange New Worlds' nod to soap operas is loaded with cool guest characters. So where are they?
Over the weekend, Paramount+ Mexico released a compelling preview trailer teasing not only the arrival of soap opera queen Deidre Hall, but also the return of two incredible Star Trek characters: Mr. Spock’s (Ethan Peck) half-brother Sybok and none other than Trelane (Rhys Darby).
And while fans can take a closer look at Strange New Worlds season 4 episode 7, “Like Chronitons Through the Hourglass," in a series of images (below) released via Star Trek’s official Instagram account this morning (Monday, Aug. 31), Hall, Sybok, and Trelane are noticeably absent from the photos.
Trelane, who first appeared in The Original Series episode “The Squire of Gothos” and was portrayed by William Campbell, last terrorized the crew of the USS Enterprise in the Strange New Worlds season 3 episode, “Wedding Bell Blues,” with Darby in the role.
This marks Trelane's second appearance on Strange New Worlds, and he is clearly in the new teaser footage. So, why omit him from these episode 7 images?
Meanwhile, Spock’s emotional and rather illogical half-brother Sybok makes his first full appearance on Strange New Worlds in season 4’s upcoming seventh episode, “Like Chronitons Through the Hourglass.”
Sybok's absence at least makes a little more sense. I'm assuming Strange New Worlds showrunners Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers are trying to keep the identity of the actor portraying Spock's half-brother a secret. Even so, fans can see La'an Noonien Singh (Christina Chong) talking to Sybok in the aformentioned teaser trailer.
Star Trek fans only caught a glimpse of Sybok from behind, who was mostly shrouded in darkness, during the SNW season 1 episode “The Serene Squall.”
Finally, “Like Chronitons Through the Hourglass” marks the first appearance of Days of Our Lives star Deidre Hall on Strange New Worlds. The actress appears to be playing a psychiatrist and can be seen at the very end of the aforementioned SNW season 4 episode 7 teaser trailer. Although, Hall teased last year (November 2025) that her character wasn’t a who, but rather a what.
Could Hall be Trelane in disguise? Hall isn't shown until the end of the teaser trailer for Strange New Worlds season 4's seventh episode, but she is clearly visibly as the footage wraps up.
As someone who is familiar with Days of Our Lives, particularly Dr. Marlena Evans’ (Hall) romance with John Black (Drake Hogestyn) and their frequent entanglements with the villainous Stefano (Joseph Mascolo), I’m intrigued that the soap opera staple is guest-starring on Strange New Worlds.
However, I’m most excited for Trelane’s return. I’m a huge fan of the character, in large part because of William Campbell’s original portrayal of the lowly Squire of Gothos. But Rhys Darby stepped into the iconic role and made it his own when his version of the wicked boy tried to play matchmaker and get Spock and Nurse Chapel (Jess Bush) back together again after their breakup.
